Refurbishment and Remounting
The disassembly
All remounts are carefully disassembled and cleaned. The old backing, ribbon and brooch will be discarded to make room for a brand new hard acrylic backing and brand new polished brooch. At this stage, it is often I find that remounts have adhesives on the backs of the medals. Please note, I DO NOT use any adhesive on the back of the replicas when I mount my medals.

The Cleaning Process
Removal of old glues/adhesives
Unfortunately, not all adhesives can be removed without damaging the medals. I take the utmost care with removing previous adhesives from the medals but be aware that some harsher glues may tarnish or damage the coating on the medals. When they are remounted, I do NOT use any adhesives to secure them to the backing board.
Cleaning
All remounts and reconditioned medals go through a very gentle clean in an ultrasonic cleaner. These cleaners are commonly used on jewelry and electronics and are known for providing a thorough and non intrusive clean. They remove buildups between the intricacies of the medals without causing any damage.
Polishing
Most medals can clean up nicely with just the ultrasonic clean and a wipe down, but some extreme cases may require a gentle polish. All polishes I use are 100% safe on medals and should not cause any harm to them. If the medals are not in good condition when presented to me, the polishing stage may be missed to prevent further damage.
The final product
It doesn’t matter to me if I am remounting originals or a set of replicas, all sets of medals are respected the same and my mission is to return an arrangement that you will not only be proud to wear, but will last for a long time to come.
